George H. Love ’22
GEORGE "CUPE" LOVE died July 25, 1991. He was a trustee of Princeton and a wellknown business leader. After attending Harvard Business School, he joined a small familycontrolled coal company, which owned three mines in Pennsylvania. Thanks to his support, this company became Consolidated Coal and was then merged with M.A. Hanna to form the country's largest coal company.
In 1958 George embarked on his second career, when he became a director of the Chrysler Corporation. He i's credited with turning Chrysler around in the early 1960's and bringing in Mr. Lynn Townsend as president. He remained chairman of Chrysler until 1970. He served as an alumni trustee from 1954 to 1958, and a charter trustee from 1951 to 1971. He and Don Lourie gave LourieLove Hall to Princeton in 1964.
George's first wife, the former Margaret McClintic, died in 1981, after 52 years of marriage. He is survived by his second wife, the former Lorraine McClintic, who had been married to the brother of his first wife; a son Pete; two daughters, Margaret Stevens and Sara Downey; 13 grandchildren; and 12 greatgrandchildren.
