George H. Von Gehr Jr. ’63

Body

George, a retired investment banker in Silicon Valley, died Nov. 16, 2021, in Seattle after a lengthy battle with heart disease.

Born and raised in Evanston, Ill., he joined Princeton from North Shore Country Day School, where he played running back for the football team, captained tennis, and served as senior class president. His major was basic engineering, he wrote a thesis on the space industry, and he ate at Cloister. After Princeton he graduated from business and law school at Stanford University.

He worked for many companies in the San Francisco Bay Area in the mergers and acquisitions and business banking fields before ultimately founding his own company, Alliant Partners, which he eventually sold in 2001 to Silicon Valley Bank.

George started enjoying retirement soon afterward and moved to the Pebble Beach area before settling down in Friday Harbor, Wash., for his final years. He spent much of his retirement cruising on his boat, traveling the world, eating epic meals, and spending time with friends and family.

George is survived by his wife of 20 years, Barbara; daughter Karla and son David ’96; stepsons Adam and Andrew; and grandchildren Sydney and Lincoln.
