George L. Erdman ’31

Body

GEORGE LIVINGSTON ERDMAN DIED Sept. 16, 1994, at Mease Continuing Care in Dunedin, Fla. He was 84. He was born in Taiku, Korea, and prepared at Mercersburg Academy. At Princeton, he participated in track and wrestling and sang in the Glee Club, for which he was the publicity manager.

He worked as a pathologist and became director of laboratories and chief of his dept. at Overlook Hospital in Summit, N.J. He also served as president of the Union County Medical Society, v.p. of the New Jersey Blood Bank Assn., and v.p. of his hospital staff.

He took an active part in the Presbyterian Church, including church-oriented civil rights. After retirement, he volunteered twice under the church's auspices as consultant to Wanless Hospital in Miraj, India. He served in the army air corps during WWII. Sailing his 45-foot boat, SALTY, and other ships occupied much of his spare time. He caught celestial navigation in the power squadron, but took time to do some woodwork and a bit of traveling.

George and his widow, Anne, to whom he was engaged while in college, had four sons, Robert L., David L., John P., and Richard W.; ten grandchildren; and a great-grandson. George has two sisters, Marjorie Tarbet and Cordelia Barber, both of Washington St., and a brother Winn. His father and five other Erdmans preceded George at Princeton. To his fine family, the class extends sincere sympathy. George will indeed be missed.
