GEORGE M. KNOWLES died Aug. 22, 1991, at his summer home in Edgartown, Mass. George and his wife, Peg, who survives him, had summered at Edgartown for many years. He had been in good health until suffering cardiac arrest. He is also survived by his son John 50, three daughters, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

At Princeton he was a member of Gateway. George graduated from Columbia Medical School and developed a private practice in Hackensack, N.J., that he continued until 1981, He was the chief of medicine at Hackensack Hospital when he retired in 1981, and he served in both WWI and WWI, with the Army Medical Services. George was active with the schools committee for many years.
