George R. Little ’48

Body

George was born July 19, 1926, in Colorado Springs, Colo., and died Dec. 9, 2013, in Brunswick, Maine. He was 87.

A history major at Princeton, George graduated in 1948 and then earned a master’s degree in journalism at Columbia University. During his Army service at Fort Benning, Ga., he was a reporter-editor for several publications. After his service he joined his father, Franklin Little ’22, as manager, then owner, of community newspapers in Potsdam, Ogdensburg, Massena, and Canton, N.Y.

He married Adele Dee Keatley in 1956, and they worked together as staffers, then editors-publishers-owners of the newspapers in upstate New York. In 1976, the Littles acquired and ran another group of local papers around Goffstown and Manchester, N.H.

In 1994 they retired, moved to Ogunquit, Maine, and wintered near Chapel Hill, N.C. They continued traveling frequently around the United States and in Europe and took classes at nearby UNC and Duke University. George also compiled and edited the Class of ’48’s elegant, informative 50-year book.

Dee survives him, as do two nieces and two nephews.
