George died July 23, 2022, at age 95.

Born in Galveston, Texas, George moved at age 8 to live on a ranch with his maternal grandparents near Uvalde, Texas. For four years there, he attended a one-room schoolhouse, where he excelled academically. George also attended San Antonio Academy and Texas Military Institute.

In 1944, George was sent to the Pacific in World War II. He became a second lieutenant at 19 and commanded a company of Philippine Scouts. Upon his return to Princeton, George started the Rifle Team on campus and majored in geology. He later earned a master’s degree at the University of Texas.

For 33 years, George worked in Houston for Humble Oil and Refining Co. (later Exxon Mobil), mostly working in production. He retired in 1985 to spend more time traveling and to manage the Sealy Land Co. George was involved in many charities and served on the Sealy & Smith Foundation board, participating in the foundation’s 100th-anniversary event about three months prior to his death.

George married Elizabeth Ann McSween in 1952, and they enjoyed numerous international trips and RV excursions until her death in 1993. He is survived by two sons, two daughters, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Dorothy Falkenberg, his close friend and companion since 1995, also survives him.

The Class of 1948 sends its sympathies in memory of our distinguished classmate.
