George A. Vaughn Jr. ’19

George A. Vaughn died on July 31, 1989. Bob was born in Brooklyn and attended Adelphi Academy. He left Princeton in May 1917 to enlist in the armed forces, and in September, he went to England for further train¬ing. In May 1918, he was assigned to Squadron 84 of the Royal Air Force; he later transferred to the 17th Aero Squadron of the U.S. Army Signal Corps. He scored 13 victories, made flight commander, and was awarded the D.F.C., the D.S.C., and the Silver Star.

Bob returned to Princeton and graduated in Feb. 1920. For the next several years, he worked with large firms. He also kept his interest in aviation very much alive by helping to organize the 27th Division Aviation of the New York National Guard, from which he retired as a brigadier general. He also co-founded and was a trus¬tee of the College of Aeronautics at LaGuardia Airport. He was a director of the National State Bank of Newark, the Atlantic Casting and Engineering Co., and the Amer¬ican Vermiculite Corp. He served for several years as V.P. of the Class of 1919.

The class extends its deepest sympathy to Marion and the entire family.
