George Vinsonhaler ’26

Body

GEORGE VINSONFIALER, retired insurance company executive, died in his home in Chapel Hill, N.C., Aug. 3, 1993, after an illness resulting from several strokes. George came to Princeton from Little Rock and was one of the younger members of the class, graduating cum laude at age 20. He was a member of Key & Seal and served as its secretary in our senior year. After graduation, George returned to Little Rock to enter the insurance business. In 1930, he joined John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Co., where he was until retirement, in 1970, as a senior V.P. George and Therese Barksdale married in 1930. In the following years, George held various positions with "the Hancock" and his family lived in a number of cities, chiefly in Cincinnati and Boston.

George took part in community affairs wherever they lived. An excellent golfer, he enjoyed the game until overtaken by illness two years ago. The trophies George brought home testified to his prowess at the game. In 1973, he and Therese moved to Chapel Hill, N.C., where, in 1981, they joined the Carol Woods retirement community.

George was ever a loyal Tiger and will be missed by many friends in the class. He is survived by Therese and their three daughters: Jane Koch, Nancy Eby, and Emily; by seven grandchildren, including Thomas L. Koch '77; and eight greatgrandchildren. To all of them, we extend our deep sympathy.
