Gerald R. Putnam ’43

Body

THE CLASS LOST ONE OF ITS BEST-LIKED and staunchest supporters when Gerry died June 18, 1994, after a long and difficult bout with cancer. He was 73. A native of New Jersey, Gerry prepared at the Loomis School. He graduated from Princeton magna cum laude in l 943 and was a member of Quadrangle Club.

During WWII, he served with the army air corps as a decorated B-17 pilot in the E.T.O., attaining the rank of lt. colonel. Shot down over Germany, he survived 17 months in a Luftstalag.

Residing in New London, N.H., for the past 20 years, Gerry worked as a Realtor Associate with White & White Real Estate there. Previously, he had lived in Connecticut and New Jersey and had been an advertising and insurance executive in N.Y.C. He had also been associated with the staff of McCall's Magazine.

It was standing room only at Gerry's memorial service. Classmates attending were Nancy and Randy Myer, Frenchie and Bill Connolly, Pat and Ben Lord, and Phoebe Miner, Josh's wife. Gerry leaves his wife of 48 years, Nancy Darsie; two sons, Gerald Jr. and John; three daughters, Kimberly Lanier, Darsie Townsend, and Nancy Putnam; 10 grandchildren and a sister, Marcia Bumstead. To all the family, we offer our deepest and most heartfelt condolences.
