Gerard P. Fitzgibbons ’78

Body

OUR CLASS LOST one of its better known and well liked members on Mar. 3, 1992, when Gerard (Gerry) P. Fitzgibbons died from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Gerry was 35 years old and lived in Bourne (Cape Cod), Mass. Gerry was raised in Worcester, Mass., and came to Princeton from St. John's H.S. in Shrewsbury, where he was a standout football player and recipient of the Hazelhurst Award. In addition he was an Eagle Scout.

While at Princeton, Gerry majored in biology and continued his athletic career as a standout football player and member of the lacrosse team. Gerry won several private scholarships during his years at Princeton, including the 1940 War Memorial Scholarship. He was also a member of the Aquinas Institute and Dial Lodge while at Princeton, Those of us who knew at Princeton will always carry the indelible memory of a funloving, enthusiastic, and loyal friend with a tremendous love of life.

After graduation, Gerry joined Arthur Andersen and pursued graduate studies in the field of accounting. Gerry also married his former high school sweetheart, Mary, and they had three children: Devin, Julie, and Jenna. Gerry expanded his career interests into the fields of real estate and computers. At the time of his death he was working as a consultant for ACopy.

A trust fund has been established for the benefit of Gerry's children. Anyone interested in further information should contact Ms. Mary Fitzgibbons, 23 Settlers Path, Sandwich, MA 02563. The Class extends its deepest sympathy to Gerry's family. With them, we shall all miss this warm, funny, caring, and enthusiastic man.
