Born in Italy, Gino grew up in The Bronx, New York, and graduated from Forest Hills High School, where he was class resident and salutatorian. At Princeton, he majored in biology, played 150-pound football, and joined the Outing Club, Orange Key, and the Pre-Med Society.

Gino earned a medical degree at Cornell in 1964, interned at Johns Hopkins in internal medicine, 1964-66, capped by six months with Johns Hopkins in India studying cholera. After two years with the Air Force Medical Corps at the Air Force base in Dayton, Ohio, Air Force Base, he moved to Stanford for a two-year residency, rising to chief resident there. He then switched coasts to become an associate professor and endocrine fellow at Mass General Hospital in Boston.

Gino always spoke fondly of his research and clinical work in biomedicine, while also teaching and mentoring. He happily carried on with it into the new century, scaling back around 2010. He married twice. With his second wife, Peggy, he lived in an 1820s Cambridge house and enjoyed frequent outings to the museums and theater of both Boston and New York City.

They shared five children, three from his first marriage, and six grandchildren. Gino died May 18, 2025, survived by Peggy and their family.
