Gordon Crabb ’40
FOLLOWING heart surgery and two subsequent operations, physician-surgeon Gordon Crabb died Oct. 12, 1989. Gordon came to Princeton from Hotchkiss. He was widely respected among his classmates, serving as chairman of both the 1940 Bric-a-Brac and Nassau Herald. He was a member of Charter Club and majored in chemistry. For two years he roomed with Johnny Whallon, a lifelong friend.
After graduation, Gordon entered Columbia's College of Physicians and Surgeons. From 1944 to 1946 Gordon served in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps. He then spent five years in Baltimore before moving to Tenafly, NJ., where he was an attending physician at the Englewood and Bergen Pines Hospitals until his retirement in 1985. He also served as president of the Englewood Hospital medical staff, and was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery. After his retirement, Gordon continued to help people, giving generously of his time to community care and walk-in clinics.
Gordon is survived by his widow, Virginia; two daughters, Christine Brown and Ann Nicklas; and several grandchildren. To each of them the class conveys its heartfelt sympathy. The loss of this kindly and dedicated doctor is felt deeply by his community, colleagues, family, and friends.
