Gordon Edwards Hildreth ’42

Body

GORDY DIED on Aug. 15, 1989, in Columbus, Ohio, his lifelong hometown. At the time of his death, he was the retired president of the Kinnear Division of Harsco Corp., a metal manufacturer in Columbus, Ohio. Following the war, he had spent his entire business career with Kinnear, starting when it was his family's company and staying with it through its acquisition by Harsco.

Hooker, as he was known in later years, came to Princeton from Columbus Academy, majored in politics, and was a member of Tiger Inn. After leaving Princeton he served in the Marine Corps for 3 1/2 years during WWII and then returned to Columbus to begin his business career.

He was characterized as a quiet, gentle man, but a Marine buddy also described him as "a catalyst." To his widow, Ellen, to his sons, Timothy, Bruce, and Louis, and to his nephew, Louis Sanford '63, the Class extends its most sincere condolences.
