Gregor Hetzel, an electrical engineer who had retired from Bell Labs-Lucent, died Jan. 27, 2011, of Alzheimer’s disease. He was 83.

Hetzel was in the Navy from 1945 to 1946, and in 1950 graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. In 1954, he earned a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Princeton, and was with Avion Instrument Corp. from 1954 to 1957. He joined Bell Labs in 1957 and was a member of its technical staff for 40 years, including six years as its representative to Michigan Bell.

He was a loyal Princetonian, attending innumerable APGA events from his home in Mendham, N.J. A member of the APGA since 1986, he was a generous donor to the Graduate School’s AG campaigns for more than 30 years and a regional treasurer of the Princeton Club of Northwestern New Jersey for eight years.

Hetzel is survived by Nancy, his wife 
of 56 years; two daughters; and four grandchildren.

Graduate memorials are prepared by the APGA.
