Guido James Gores ’38

After marrying Mary Callaway, Guido was assigned to the cruiser USS Savannah. The ship was damaged in the Battle of Salerno and returned for repairs in Philadelphia, where Guido became its commanding officer.

After World War II, Guido returned to Cincinnati and joined Lincoln National Bank. It was later acquired by Fifth Third Bank, of which he became the chief investment officer and vice president before retirement.

Guido was active in many social and charitable organizations — many of which received his wise investment advice — including Cincinnati Tennis Club, the University Club, Cincinnati Chamber Music Society, and the Seven Hills private school. He also loved sailing on Lake Michigan.

Mary died in 1999. Guido is survived by his daughters, Drew Gores and Monnie Peters; sons Christopher Gores ’65 and Guido Gores Jr.; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. To them all, the class extends its sincere condolences.
