H. Craig Whitaker ’54

Craig Whitaker died of lung cancer Jan. 8, 2009, at his home.  

Born in Philadelphia, he attended Sharon Hill (Pa.) High School and graduated from Virginia Episcopal School in Lynchburg. He left Princeton after his freshman year and completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Pennsylvania in 1954. In 1958, he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, interned at Womack Army Hospital at Fort Bragg, N.C., and subsequently returned to complete training in obstetrics at Penn.

He practiced obstetrics and gynecology in Delaware County, Pa., for 35 years in association with Crozer-Chester Medical Center. In his retirement he served on the animal-studies advisory committee at the University of Pennsylvania.

The class extends its sympathy to his wife of 54 years, Patricia; their children, Lance, Todd, and Jocelyn; and three grandchildren.
