Gard died Dec. 10, 1994, at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C. He and Helen, his wife of 54 years, lived in Chevy Chase, Md.

Gard worked in the stare department and was a Foreign Service officer. George worked outside the U.S. during 1940-70. He spent much of his career in economic poses in Europe and Latin America. His Europe.in assignments included seven years in Rome. During 1944-48, he reported on Italy’s economic revival after WWII. During 1960-63, he was embassy economic counselor. From time to time, he served in Washington in various posts and attended the Natl. War College. Just before retiring, he was counselor for economic affairs in Mexico City.

Gard was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Chevy Chase Club, and the Society of the Cincinnati in New Hampshire.

We shall miss our distinguished classmate and we offer our sympathy to Helen and their daughters Linda and Lee, their grandson Scott Johnson, and Gard's sister Katharine Semmes.
