Hamilton H. Sanger ’31

Body

Hamilton H. Sanger died in his sleep Apr. 22, 1995, at Charleston Care Center in Catonsville. Born in Ruxton, Md., he prepared at Gilman. His graduation from Princeton, where he was a member of Clio Hall and Tower Club, was delayed when his back was broken in an automobile accident. He earned a M.B.A. at N.Y.U. in 1934. He was later licensed as a C.P.A. in Maryland.

A quick turnabout in 1950 found Ham building a house, then selling it and entering a career of investing and property management. He gave jobs to displaced foreigners through the Church World Service, and freshened up his German to talk to the workers, In the construction, he used second-hand materials from a wide variety of razed buildings. He invested in and remodeled residential properties and built an addition to what is now Ruxton Country Day School.

Ham was active in the World Peace Through World Law movement and the United World Federalists. He enjoyed the Bachelors Cotillion, traveling in the past few years here and in Europe, and gardening when not studying French or world history.

His wife, Katharine Wirt Walker, died in 1975. He is survived by daughter Helen S. Pierce, son Frank, brother Edward J., and seven grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by his friends and the whole class. They all send sympathy to the family.
