Harding Johnson Jr. ’39

Body

A STRONG AND DEVOTED SUPPORTER of Princeton, Harding died Oct. 18, 1994, in Manhattan. He was a lifelong resident of N.Y.C., where he was an attorney specializing in trusts and estates. He attended every class reunion through the 50th and he and wife Joanne even planned their wedding date in 1959 so that he could be in Princeton for our 20th.

Through the years, Harding's off-duty passion was bridge. In the early 1940s, he helped organize an annual bridge competition among Ivy League university dubs in N.Y.C. He led and played on the Princeton Club team for many years. In 1972, after taking first place in a field of 420 contestants in the New England Open Individual Bridge Tournament in Boston, he was awarded the status of Life Master by the American Contract Bridge League.

Harding is survived by his widow, Joanne; his brother Wade; his sister Jo Tuck; and a Princetonian nephew, Keith Barton '59. We share their loss and offer them our sympathy.
