Harold E. Rhame Jr. ’47

After an accelerated education at Old Nassau (1943 to 1946) he won with distinction his medical degree at George Washington University Medical School and became, for 30 years, a surgeon at Bridgeport (Conn.) Hospital.

In our 40th yearbook he reported that “work” had never been a “priority” at Princeton, but it became so thereafter. Hal had an extraordinarily active career as a surgeon, clinical teacher, and hospital admin istrator  — and later as an elderly law student  and an adjunct “law and medicine” professor.

In 1950 he met and married Joan Wilson. They raised three children and were blessed with four grandchildren. Hal and Joan (with their children) enjoyed “blue water” sailboat cruising in New England during the summer, in the Caribbean during the winter, and in Bermuda for races in the spring. Hal prized his membership in the Cruising Club of America and the elite New York Yacht Club.

In our 50th book, Hal reported that he had replaced a hip and survived prostate surgery and a quadruple bypass. These infirmities and age finally took their toll, and he died April 22, 2010.
