Harold L. Komoski ’38
To those who knew him well, Hal Komoski was a gentle, kind, and affectionate man who met life with a strong spirit of independence. He showed his determination to attend Princeton by working in his father's plumbing business for two years after high school to accumulate the necessary funds. In college, he had to forego his cherished violin lessons in favor of study and work to support himself.
After graduation, Hal worked for manufacturing concerns until he joined the Army Air Corps in 1942. In the same year, he married Tania Bodner. Following military discharge, he and Tania planned and built with their own hands their home near Hopewell, NJ. In 1954, they adopted their daughter, Maria, who became Harold's pride and delight. Maria's daughters also shared their grandfather's affections. The things that mattered most to him during his working years—for Roebling and others—were his home, his family, and his music (especially opera). His final employment, as building inspector for nearby East Amwell Twp., enabled him to give more attention to the fruit trees, birds, and gardens on his own land.
Like the string quartets that he loved, his life was a quiet paean to a spirit of beauty that guided him. Hal left us on Oct 27, 1989. He is missed.
