Harper Roome Dowell ’30

IT IS WITH DEEP regret that we report the death of Harper Dowell, business executive, on Dec. 10, 1992, after a lingering illness. He was ever a Princeton gentleman, a man for all seasons. Born Sept. 30, 1905, Harp prepared for Princeton at Paterson H.S., where he was involved with the fencing team, dramatics, and student council.

At Princeton, he joined Arbor Inn and served as president. Always active in the Episcopal church, he was president of the university's St. Paul's society. He was prominent in alumni affairs and received a 1980 Alumni Council award.

In 1934, he married Barbara Rose of Grosse Point, Mich. During WWII, he served in the procurement office in Washington. Later, in Benton Harbor, Mich., he became national director of distribution for Philco (later Whirlpool) and opened a regional office in New York. He later moved to the San Francisco region. In retirement he moved back east, to Atlanta.

The Class expresses deepest sympathy to his sister May, his sons Peter '58 and John '64, and the rest of the family.
