Harrison Garrett ’33
HARRY GARRETT, who was president of the class from 195358, died Jan. 19, 1994, at his home in Brooklandville, Md. Harry was born in Baltimore on Apr. 27, 1911. He prepared at Gilman. In college, he was on the football and track teams for three years, and a member of Cap and Gown. He roomed with Stan Purnell.
After college, Harry worked for Banker's Trust in N.Y.C. and London. During WWII, he was in the army in France, leaving in 1945 as a It. colonel. He then joined the family firm of Robert Garrett and Sons, of which he became chairman. He was director of a number of corporations and foundations, and active in the Episcopal Church. He was also heavily involved in Princeton affairs, serving as a trustee and attending Reunions regularly.
On June 20, 1936, Harry married Grace Dodge Rea in Rector, Penn, She died in 1977. The next year, he married Dorothea W. Moss, who died in 1992. Harry is survived by three sons, Robert '59, Dr. Thomas '61, and James R. '65; by a daughter, Julia G. Fox, by two stepsons, Ambler Moss and Robert Moss; by three sisters, Katharine Bainbridge, Alice Phillips, and Ella Brigham; by nine grandchildren (including Sarah Fox '93 and Johnson Garrett '91); and by six great grandch i ldren.
Harry was very important to the class, and we extend our sympathy to his family.
