Harry died June 26, 2024, in Raleigh, N.C.  He was 81.

Harry was born in Trenton Jan. 2, 1943. After serving in the Air Force, he earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, in 1970, and his Ph.D. in art and architecture from Princeton in 1984. His dissertation was “The Architectural History of Auxerre Cathedral.”

He taught briefly at Boston University before joining the faculty at Wake Forest, where he taught for 32 years before retiring in 2013. Harry served the university as chairman of the art department and president of the Faculty Senate.

Harry’s research on Gothic cathedrals was based in France, where he frequently took students to engage them in subject matter and research methods. In the fall semester of 1986, he was the director of Casa Artom, Wake Forest’s study center in Venice.

Following his retirement from Wake Forest, Harry taught art history as a volunteer at Longleaf School of the Arts, a Raleigh charter high school. After Longleaf, Harry taught classes, including Greek art, to an older audience at the OLLI program at NC State.

Harry is survived by his wife of 34 years, Maggie Gregory; siblings Richard and Susan; and several nieces and nephews.
