Harry James Stevens Jr. ’36

Body

At Princeton, Steve majored in politics and belonged to Elm Club. He earned a law degree in 1939 at Rutgers School of Law and later became president of the Rutgers School of Law Alumni Association.

Steve served in the Navy in the Pacific

theater during World War II and in 1946 with Navy forces in the occupation of Japan.

Until 1980 he practiced law in Newark and Millburn Township. He was counsel to the Millburn Board of Adjustment and on the boards of New Eyes for the Needy, Neighborhood House, and the Short Hills Association. He was an eager and effective volunteer for many worthy organizations.

Steve was predeceased by his wife, Virginia Stanley, whom he married in 1939; a brother, Walter ’46; a sister, Lillian King; and a son, William Stevens. He is survived by his daughters, Joan and Susan; his son, Jay; Susan’s husband, T. Dennis Sullivan ’70; grandsons David Sullivan and Steven Sullivan ’03; and granddaughter Tara and her husband, Matt Condon. Our regrets go to the family of this loyal Tiger.
