Harry K. Baird ’53

Harry, the son of Edgar W. Baird Jr. ’20, died Oct. 18, 2010, in Dallas, Texas. He was 80.  

Harry left us at the end of freshman year, intending to return following military service. He did not return, but instead attended the University of Miami for a short time.

He came to Princeton from St. Paul’s and roomed with Dick Drayton and John Wright. St. Paul’s classmate Fred Wonham said he and Harry talked about the possibility of rooming together sophomore year but the discussion ended when Harry joined the Air Force. Dick Woodward, another St. Paul’s classmate, recalled Harry as being “quiet and studious” and “a pleasant” individual. Dick was thoughtful to pull out his St. Paul’s 50th-reunion yearbook and pass on the following information: Harry rowed crew at St. Paul’s and, after his four years in the Air Force, attended General Motors Institute, sold residential real estate in Florida, and was a travel agent involved with luxury cruises.  

Harry was not married. We have no other information on his life. To his niece, Helen H. Hobbs, and other survivors, the class sends sincere sympathy.
