HARVEY LEIBENSTEIN, Andalot Professor Emeritus of Economics and Population at Harvard, died of cancer Feb. 28, 1994. He was 71. Born Aug. 7, 1922, in the Ukraine, he came to Canada in early childhood and received his elementary and secondary education in Montreal. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees at Northwestern Univ. At Princeton, he got his Ph.D. in economics in 1951. He taught economics at Princeton, U.C.-Berkeley, and Harvard, and was a member of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. In addition, he served worldwide as a visiting professor, lecturer, consultant, and United Nations expert. He wrote 10 books and 75 monographs, review articles, and journal publications in economics. An automobile accident in 1987 forced him to retire. He is survived by his widow, Margaret, and his brother, Rabbi Ben Don Leibenstein. 10 his family and his colleagues, friends, and former students, we extend deepest sympathy in the passing of this great teacher.
