Hector C. Cowan ’45

Body

HECTOR DIED Nov. 2, 1990, after a long illness, in Sarasota, Fla., where he was active in the Unitarian Church, the Princeton Club, and the Ivy League Alumni Club.

He entered Princeton from Hobart, N.Y., a rural Catskills community, where he was in the first graduating class of South Kortright Central School.

Hec, who never married, was a third generation Princetonian, following his father, Hector E. '15, and grandfather, Hector '88. His grandfather was one of Princeton's "All Time Great" football players, captain of the '88 and '89 teams and a member of Walter Camp's frist "All American Team."

Hector roomed with John Abbotts and Jack Murnane until 1943, when he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served with the Ninth Army in Europe. Upon returning to Princeton, Hector majored in politics, graduating in 1947.

Following in his forebears' footsteps, he managed the G.L.F. Agency, an agricultural coop in Hobart. His entire career was spent with the agricultural coop, and he served as manager of Agway Agriculture Products in Peru, N.Y., and Meadville, Penn.

Hector was a member of Dial Lodge, whose members enjoyed his dry wit, good humor and lively political dissertations.

Always the gentleman, Hector showed consideration and compassion to all.
