Henry Andrew Kierstead ’43

HENRY DIED Feb. 14, 1990, at age 67. The cause of death was an inoperable brain tumor.

A native of Pittsfield, Mass., he lived most of his adult life in the Chicago area, where he worked for the Argonne National Laboratory as a research physicist. During that time, Henry was credited with the authorship of more than 50 papers.

Following his graduation from Princeton, he served in the U.S. Army working on the Manhattan Project from 1944 to 1946, and received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Princeton in 1946. Henry later took posts as a post-doctoral fellow at the Institute for Nuclear Studies (1947-49) and as an assistant professor at Brown (1949-52).

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Hewlett-Kierstead; his former wife, Anne Elizabeth Williams Kierstead of Naperville, Fla.; two sons, Henry A. Kierstead Jr. of Phoenix and David P. Kierstead of Vienna, Va.; a daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Eversole of Naperville, Ill.; his twin brother, Friend Hans Jr.; a sister, Esther Marion Hanlon; three stepchildren; and four grandchildren.
