Henry Darcy Carruthers ’46

Body

HANK DIED on Feb. 5, 1990, of complications after surgery at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, Long Island.

After joining us from Great Neck High School, Hank entered the Army, serving in the 95th Division Pack Artillery, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Hank enjoyed recounting that standing orders were, in case of gas attack, masks were to be put on the mules first because they were harder to replace. Upon returning to Princeton, he continued in psychology and graduated in 1948.

Hank was a member of Quadrangle Club, former Class chairman for Annual Giving, and schools committee member of the Princeton Alumni Assn. of Nassau County. He also spent many hours as a volunteer career adviser for Princeton Club members, an activity that gave him infinite pleasure.

Hank was president of Carruthers Consulting, the management marketing and sales development concern he founded in 1972. Prior to that, he was a V.P. of sales and marketing for Pan American World Airways and a V.P. of Golightly International, a management consulting firm.

We shall miss our full-of-life, fun-loving classmate.

Hank is survived by his widow, the former Marilyn Mayekawa, their daughter Lisa and son Bruce '92, and three children from a former marriage, Gavin, Laurie, and Benny, and his brother, Felix '38. To all we extend our deepest sympathy.
