Henry J. Ford II ’56

Henry “Hank” Ford, a horse-racing enthusiast and owner of thoroughbreds, died of leukemia Jan. 21, 2010, at age 75. He lived in Alexandria, Va., and had previously lived in Arlington County and Laurel, Md.

Hank was born in Baltimore. He graduated from St. Albans School in Washington, D.C., in 1952 and from Princeton with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He spent four years with the National Security Agency before turning to horses full time. His brother said that Hank went to the tracks every weekend.

For nearly 40 years, Hank owned thoroughbreds that he raced in Maryland and along the East Coast. Trico, his first horse, was an aging 5-year-old who raced successfully for several years, and Hank used his winnings to buy more horses.

He is survived by a sister, Virginia Fletcher. His brother, Franklin Ford ’55, died July 1, 2010. Contributions in Hank’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org ) or St. Albans School (www.stalbansschool.org).
