HENRY KNIGHT MILLER, an emeritus professor of English, died Mar. 19, 1994. He was 73. He was born in Brooklyn. From 1941 to 1946, he served as a radioman in the U.S. Coast Guard, before attending Oberlin College, where he got his bachelor's degree in 1949. Then he came to Princeton and earned a doctorate in English.

He spent his entire career at Princeton, and had served on the English dept. faculty since l953. From 1970 to 1973, he was director of graduate studies. He won many honors, awards, and fellowships, including Phi Beta Kappa, the Procter Fellowship, the Perkins Fellowship, and six lectureships. He wrote many books and articles about Henry Fielding.

He is survived by a sister-in-law and brother-in­law, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Mears. His wife, Bertie, died in 1988. To the Mearses and to Prof. Miller’s friends and former students, we extend our heartfelt sympathy.
