Henry L. T. Koren ’33
BARNEY KOREN DIED July 6, 1994, in Williamsburg, Va., where he had lived since 1988. He had a distinguished career in the Foreign Service. Barney was born in Princeton on Mar. 13, 1911. He prepared at Exeter. In college, he was on the soccer and swimming teams, in Triangle Club, and a member of Quad. He roomed at various times with Sing Collins, Lin Williams, Walt Devereaux, Giff Agnew, Don Johnson, and others.
After college, Barney worked for Ward Baking and the Bank of New York before joining the army in WWII. He spent six years in the service, becoming a colonel. In 1947, he joined the C.I.A. In 1948, he went to the Foreign Service, where he served for 23 years. He was in Haiti, in Switzerland, in the Philippines, and ambassador to the Congo. He also served in Vietnam. Later, he was deputy undersecretary of the army for Panamanian affairs.
After his government career, Barn Cy moved to Florida, where he was active in the Gasparilla Island Conservation Assn.
In 1941, Barney married Virginia Cain, who survives, as do their son, H. L. T. Jr.; daughter Ann; and three grandchildren. To all of them, the class expresses its deep sympathy.
