Henry P. Elliott Jr. ’57

Henry, the son of a member of the Class of 1914 and the father of Amy ’94, was a dedicated collector of Princetoniana: postcards, mugs, and nearly a century of P-rade badges that he pinned onto a quilt stitched by Diane, his wife of 53 years, from scraps of reunion jackets.
Henry died on Valentine’s Day 2025 in Rye, N.Y., after a long battle with Parkinson’s. He came to Princeton from St. Paul’s School and majored in sociology and economics. He was the cox for the freshman crew, ate at Charter Club, sang with the Glee Club, and roomed in Little with Hal Brayman, Harris Colt, Gordon Fowler, Bob King, and John MacKay.
After graduation, Henry served on active duty at Fort Knox, then began a career in securities, working for decades at the same desk as the brand changed from Estabrook to Shearson to Smith Barney. On retirement, Henry spent hours reading deeply into history, particularly World War II, and planning one of their three trips to the Holy Land, their autumn weeks at lakes in Vermont, or their anniversaries at Lake Mohonk, N.Y.
Henry is survived by Diane; daughter Amy; son Henry III; one grandson; and a sister.
