Henry William Allboff Jr. ’48

Body

HANK ALLHOFF died in St. Ann, Mo., Aug. 14, 1991, after a long and debilitating illness that had cut short a promising career as a mechanical engineer.

Hank came to us by way of St. Louis Univ. High School and a brief stint at the Univ. of Richmond. At college he roomed with Dick Caples, Bob Degner, and Bill Bolger. He was in Prospect and Navy V12.

Hank was long employed by McDonnell Douglas, where he designed an alternate power system that was used in the first manned space capsule. This is the capsule on display at the Smithsonian. Missile research was his major area of endeavor. While still able to work after an early retirement, Hank served as a consultant at the Univ. of Illinois.

Physical restrictions prevented Hank from returning to Princeton for alumni affairs, but his devotion to his alma mater was an important part of his life.

His family was his greatest joy. Hank is survived by Lorene, his wife of 42 years; sons Edward and Henry; daughters Jane, Elizabeth, and Catherine; and eight grandchildren. To all of them, the Class offers its heartfelt condolences.
