Herbert F. Bruning Jr. ’56

Body

BUZZ BRUNING died in his beloved Venice Mar. 30, 1993. Buzz came to Princeton from New Trier, played freshman football and track, joined Tower Club, and majored in chemistry. After army service, he spent some years in the family business before moving to Paris and eventually Venice in the mid60s.

A consummate cook, he coauthored VENETIAN COOKING, then one of the first books of its kind for stateside readers. Combining interests in the theater and its art of presentation with his chemist's sense of precision, Buzz orchestrated numerous meals for family and friends. He was happiest enjoying and exploring his adopted city with friends and visitors.

Buzz was often seen paddling to the farthest reaches of the lagoon in his imported Old Town canoe. Likewise, a seed brought from the U.S. grew into a tall redwood in his garden. While not untouched by sadness, he was on the whole a most fortunate man, Finding the place where he wished to live and doing just that.

Buzz leaves a sister, Barbara Silge; a brother, Charles; former wife, Leslie; and nine nieces and nephews. To them the class extends its sincere condolences.
