Herb died July 17, 2016, at Wexner Heritage Village in Columbus, Ohio, where he was being treated for Parkinson’s.

He was born Oct. 13, 1925, in Columbus and attended Columbus Academy before his enrollment in the Navy V-12 Program at Princeton in 1943. The Navy taught him to fly. When he returned to finish his engineering studies, he joined Tiger Inn — a fitting place for this serious Tiger.

Herb’s longest employment was as assistant dean of the engineering school at Ohio State. But his greatest joys were his Princeton connections and his large family — six children (including three Princetonians), 15 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. Herb was an active fundraiser for Princeton, serving as special gifts chair and solicitor from 1995 until 2002.

Herb and his wife, Jo, flew together until a 1994 heart operation caused them to transfer their interest to sailing the Caribbean and Bahamas out of Clearwater, Fla.

The class sends its fond memories of this adventurous and laughing classmate to Jo and his many children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
