Herbert Reed Lewis ’47

Body

HERBERT LEWIS DIED of heart failure in NYC Apr. 16, 1993.

He was born in Rochester, N.Y., and attended the Harley School in that city and the Asheville School in North Carolina. During WWI L he served in the army in Europe. After his discharge, he came to Princeton, where he majored in psychology and joined Cloister Inn. He worked as an illustrator for the American Book Co. in NYC, where he made his home.

Although Herb was not active in the affairs of our class, he was a generous contributor to Annual Giving. Nor was Princeton the only recipient of his benefactions. Much of his life was devoted to aiding charitable organizations in NYC, including many of the city's theater companies. He was also a world-class traveler. So strong was his wanderlust that every year, in the company of a friend, he made two or three extensive trips abroad.

Herb is survived by his brother, David H., and his nephew, Michael. To them the class extends its profound sympathy.
