Herbert S. Gardner Jr. ’31
WE HAVE RECEIVED the sad word that Herb Gardner died in Sun City, Ariz., July 8, 1991, after a nearly yearlong struggle with the complications of a stroke and heart attack. Herb came to Princeton from the St. Louis Country Day School and Hotchkiss. During his junior year he was awarded a Phi Beta Kappa Key and the Wood Legacy Prize. After graduation he studied radar technology at M.I.T., which he put to use in WWII for the U.S. Navy. Subsequently, he joined the family advertising agency in St. Louis and served his profession with distinction by his authorship of THE ADVERTISING BUSINESS, a well-known text in his field. He and his wife, Agnes, who survives him, moved to Sun City in 1976. To her, their two daughters, and three grandchildren, one of whom is David Gardner James '90, the class extends its sincere sympathy.
