Herman William Melum ’39

Body

BILL DIED on July 31, 1989, in St. Simons Island, Ga., where he had lived since he retired in 1974 as V.P. of the First National Bank of Chicago. Having been with the bank for 35 years, his future plans then called for "living the good life." He found that good life on St. Simons and once wrote us that if he had known more about the South, he would have moved there 40 years earlier.

Born in Oak Park, Ill. Bill prepped at Taft and trans¬ferred to Princeton from Northwestern in the fall of 1935. He was with us for only two years, leaving to go to work at the First National Bank. In 1940, he married Bettie Jean Seymour, also of Oak Park. They had two children: a daughter, Barbara Jean (Mrs. Jeffry) Pahl, and a son, Robert Seymour. Together, Bettie and Bill enjoyed 15 happy years of retirement. Bill played a lot of golf until about a year ago, when he developed Parkin¬son's disease and had to give it up. This disease finally proved fatal. To Bettie and their children and six grand¬children, we offer our sincere sympathy.
