Herminio Traviesas ’35

Body

TRAVIE DIED Dec. 3, 1993, following a stroke. He had a distinguished career in TV and advertising, serving as a vp. of NBC; CBS; and Batton, Barton, Durstine, and Osborn. In 1967, he took early retirement, and "through a quirk [he] began an exciting and never dull new career at NBC as V.P. of Broadcast Standards." As such, he was the head censor for NBC. His censorship problems were frequently in the press and he also spoke frequently to large groups, including our '35 wives at a major reunion. in his words, he "represented the conscience of the network and was known as 'Mr. Clean.' " During WWII, he was in the air force in France, handling radio broadcasts to the U.S.

Travie and Dolly retired to Atlantis, Fla., in 1980, purchasing a home on a golfcourse, where he played. A loyal classmate, he and Dolly enjoyed our Florida minis and attended our major reunions. He was an active worker at Presbyterian churches in Larchmont, N.Y.; L.A.; and West Palm Beach. He was also active in the Habilitation Center, serving as aid, director, treasurer, and vp.

The class extends sincere sympathy to his widow, Dolly, and his sister, Lillia Newsome.
