Holmes L. Hutson ’44

Body

Hank Hutson died at Princeton Medical Center Mar. 7, 1995, after a brief illness. The son of Princeton classics professor Frederick L., Hank spent all his life in the Princeton area. After preparing at Hotchkiss, Hank joined us in the fall of 1940, graduating with a chemistry degree and highest honors in Oct. 1943.

A lifelong struggle with heart and diabetic problems prevented Hank from military service during WWII. Instead, he joined the Delaval Steam Turbine Co. in Trenton, with which he spent the next 30 years until his health forced him to retire early from his position as chief metallurgist.

Hank was always interested in any form of intellectual inquiry on just about any subject. A devoted family man, he took particular pleasure in the achievements of his children in their varied fields of interest. He was a loyal, undemanding friend to a wide circle of friends, a true gentleman of the old school. To his widow, Ruth; his stepbrother, Bill Watts '33; his daughters Sally and Elizabeth; and to his sons, Fred and Holmes '74 , the class extends its sincere sympathy.
