Horace P. Whitworth Jr. ’35
Horace Whitworth died of cancer Jan. 19, 1995, in Western port, Md. He came to Princeton from Mercersburg, but left at the end of freshman year; he later obtained his law degree from the Univ. of Maryland.
Horace married Lorelle Headley in 1940. Then came the war and naval service as a communications officer on the U.S.S. Tutuila in the Pacific. His later professional lift was characterized by an active and varied legal practice, with involvement in politics, business, and banking, as well as civic responsibilities and fraternal memberships.
He was one of western Maryland's best loved and respected citizens. Starting in 1946, he served eight years in the Maryland legislature. He served as a church vestryman, was local legal counsel for Westvaco Corp., and was prominent in state and county bar associations.
He leaves his wife of 54 years, Lorelle; daughter Nancy McIntyre; three brothers, Dr. Dixon '35 (his twin brother), Richard, and David; sister Margaret Gannon; and four grandsons. The class sends sincere sympathy to all.
