Howard D. McIntyre Jr. ’53

Body

WITH EXTREME REGRET, the class records the death of Howard McIntyre, July 31, 1994. Howard committed suicide because of severe depression,

Born in Cincinnati, he prepared at Gov. Dummer Academy. At Princeton, he majored in biology and belonged to Key and Seal Club. He roomed with Stan Friedman, Bill Macomber, and Louis Waddell. After service in the navy, Howard attended Virginia Medical School. Upon graduation, he interned and had his residency in neurology at Boston City Hospital.

He began his private practice of medical neurology in Cambridge, Mass. After a position with the Veterans Admin., Howard returned to private practice and reaching clinical neurology in the Boston area. Because of his health, Howard elected early retirement in  1993.

Sculling was a favorite pastime of Howard's and he served as chairman of the Cambridge Boat Club Regatta. Twenty-five years out of college, he registered a splendid time in the Masters of the Charles Regatta, of which he was a founding director and former trustee. The care and flying of a 1951 DeHavilland Chipmunk was another of Howard’s passions.

He dearly loved and was deservedly proud of his wife, Jackie, who received her master's in mathematics at Harvard and was manager of user services at Project Athena at M.I.T. We send deepest sympathy to Jackie and family as we bid farewell to our friend, Howard.
