Howard Emerson Parks Jr. ’51

Body

Howie was born May 18, 1929, and came to us from East High School in Denver, where he played football and was president of the senior class.

At Princeton he majored in economics, was active on the Freshman Council, the Committee of ’50, and the Inter-Club Committee and was president of Quadrangle. He roomed with Lance Holden, Bruce Haber, Lou Kelly, John Mott, Fred Riehl, Mick Traylor, and Ben Webster.

Howie earned a law degree, as had his father before him, from Denver University, and then served in the Navy from 1953 to 1955. He was a member of the bar from 1953 to 1996, when he retired. Both of Howie’s marriages ended in divorce.

In the late ’90s he was diagnosed with cancer, which was arrested after extensive radiation, but his ability to speak and to swallow were both compromised. During those last years, his daughter, Emily, was his mainstay and supporter.

Howie died on Nov. 7, 2009. He is survived by Emily and her husband, Rory Andrykowski. Howie’s son and his brother predeceased him.

Mick Traylor characterized Howie as a good man, honest to a fault, and exceedingly thoughtful in remembering his friends.
