Howard F. Vultee Jr. ’58

Howard, or “Spike” as he was known to many of us, died June 1, 2011.

He came to Princeton from Choate, majored in mechanical engineering, won a letter in swimming, and ate his meals at Tower Club. Howard was also active in WPRB and the Chapel Choir. Senior year he roomed with Bob Miller, Russ Stevenson, John Scott, Dick Carls, and Bob Ober.

After Princeton he studied in Switzerland at L’Université de Genève and L’Institute des Hautes Etudes Internationales. He earned an M.B.A. from New York University and began a career in investment banking with Eastman Dillon in New York. In 1969, he moved to San Francisco and joined Booth Computer as vice president of venture investments and corporate development. In 1979 he formed his own firm, Vultee Capital Inc. He retired in 1991 and moved to Camden, Maine.

After he retired, Howard and Lila attended many mini-reunions, including one they hosted in Camden in 2000. Continuing his lifelong love of music, Howard became involved in the local opera company in Camden.

The class extends sincere sympathy to Lila, his wife of 46 years, sons Erik and Forrest; and his grandchildren on their loss.
