Howard M. Taylor ’40

Body

Howard died March 19, 2011, in Dedham, Mass.

The young man we knew as “Howie” attended Polytechnic Preparatory Country Day School in Brooklyn. At Princeton, he majored in politics, was on the wrestling team, was a Gateman, Usher, and Inspector, and joined Cloister Inn.

During World War II, Howard served in the Army Air Corps, achieving the rank of captain as a member of the 78th Fighter Group in the European theater.

His business career was spent in the insurance field in New York City until his retirement in 1983. He enjoyed tennis, travel, and, he said, “golf and children — not necessarily in that order — except on Saturdays.”

Howie said he was blessed with two wonderful wives — Ruth Eytinge, who died after giving him four cherished children — and Elaine Leander, whom he married in 1971, bringing her four “into the mix.”

Howie is survived by Elaine, his children and stepchildren, 18 grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. To them, his classmates offer their deep sympathies.
