HOWIE DIED of a ruptured appendix on Mar. 17, 1992, at medical facility in Seclona, Ariz., his home since 1990. He and Duckie, his wife of nearly 49 years, had moved West because of Howie's deteriorating health.

Following graduation he spent three and a half years in the 101st Field Artillery, receiving two silver stars and a purple heart, while serving in the U.S. and Europe, and rising to the rank of captain.
Following the war Howie joined the Oil States Petroleums Co., of Bayonne, NJ. His long career in oil marketing included positions with Hess, Inc.; Keystone Fuel Oil Co.; and a position as V.P. marketing of his own business, Fuel Oil Marketers.
Howie's interests included Little League coaching and the Y.M.C.A., on whose board he served. After his move to Wilmington, his home for many years, he became an elder and trustee of the Green Hill Presbyterian Church and a member of the S.A.R. He was an, ardent Princetonian, seldom missing an opportunity to return to Old Nassau or to visit with classmates, His WWII decorations entitled him to burial in Arlington National Cemetery with full colors, where he was interred on Apr. 13, 1992.
To his widow, Duckie, and to his three sons, Howard Jr., Charles, and Thomas, the Class offers its most sincere condolences.
