Hugh A. Eubank ’42

Hugh was born in Springfield, Mass., and prepared at Deerfield, where he was captain of the swimming team in his senior year. At Princeton he was a member of Cannon Club.

In 1940, Hugh enrolled in the first V-7 class of the Naval Reserve. He completed his junior year at Princeton before going on active duty. He was commissioned an ensign in 1941. He then was given several fleet staff assignments before serving as communications officer aboard the light cruiser U.S.S. Biloxi, engaging the Japanese almost continuously over a two-year period. He was released from active duty as a lieutenant commander in 1945 and returned to Princeton. He graduated with honors in psychology in 1946.

Hugh’s entire professional career was spent as an insurance broker with Davis, Dorland & Co. in New York City.

His first wife, Marjorie, died suddenly in 1968, leaving him with one daughter, Liz. He then married Doris “Dee” Darby, an old friend, and acquired three more daughters, Lynn, Joan, and Deanne. Hugh retired from Davis, Dorland as vice president in 1982 and then traveled and enjoyed life with Dee.
