HUGH DAVIS died of cancer in Highline Community Hospital, Seattle, on May 14, 1992.

Most of his 40year career as an engineer was with the Boeing Company, where he designed the hydrofoil water jet propulsion system, Earlier he had worked with the Pennsylvania Railroad, the Tennessee Valley Authority, BaldwinLimaHamilton, Roots Connersville Blower Co., and was a professor of engineering at Southern Methodist Univ. Hugh was a world traveler, scientific theorist, and member of Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma XI Research Society, Tau Beta Pi, American Society of Civil Engineers, and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He was an active member of the Presbyterian Church, Shaw Islanders Inc., and the Boeing tennis club and ski club.

At Princeton, he and his min brother, the late Gaston, both graduated magna cum laude in civil engineering, and in 1936 Hugh earned his master's degree in hydraulic engineering. Hugh and Gaston were born in France and came to the United States when they were ten.

Hugh's survivors are his loving wife of 52 years, Melba Mewhinney Davis; son Joe Leonard; daughters Helen Davis Sutton, Carol, and Kim; and two grandchildren; to all of whom the Class extends its sincere sympathy.
